“Regrets collect like old friends
Here to relive your darkest moments
I can see no way, I can see no way
And all of the ghouls come out to play

And every demon wants his pound of flesh
But I like to keep some things to myself
I like to keep my issues strong
It’s always darkest before the dawn

And I’ve been a fool and I’ve been blind
I can never leave the past behind
I can see no way, I can see no way
I’m always dragging that horse around

And our love is pastured such a mournful sound
Tonight I’m gonna bury that horse in the ground
So I like to keep my issues strong
But it’s always darkest before the dawn

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaaah

And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woah

I am done with my graceless heart
So tonight I’m gonna cut it out and then restart
Cause I like to keep my issues strong
It’s always darkest before the dawn

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah

And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woah

And given half the chance would I take any of it back
It’s a final mess but it’s left me so empty
It’s always darkest before the dawn

Oh woah, oh woah…

And I’m damned if I do and I’m damned if I don’t
So here’s to drinks in the dark at the end of my road
And I’m ready to suffer and I’m ready to hope
It’s a shot in the dark and right at my throat
Cause looking for heaven, for the devil in me
Looking for heaven, for the devil in me
Well what the hell I’m gonna let it happen to me

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah

And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woah

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, ooh woaaah

And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh woah”

“It’s been a long time since I came around / Been a long time but I’m back in town / This time I’m not leaving without you…” - @LadyGaga (love this song)

Wise words this Monday (or most mornings)… “I cannot stay in bed all day, though I wish I could… I want to, want to stay in bed all day…” ~ new one from @xylosmusic.

Love lyrics in country music… “Is it still over? Are we still through? Since my phone still ain’t ringin’, I assume it still ain’t you”. Ahhhh Randy Travis. Fact: his show was my first ever concert. Mullets a plenty! And no, this isn’t Randy Travis, but it’s a fairly decent cover I found on YouTube.

[We’re better off for all that we let in…]

Dust in our eyes our own boots kicked up
Heartsick we nursed along the way we picked up
You may not see it when it’s sticking to your skin
But we’re better off for all that we let in

Lost friends and loved ones much too young
So much promises and work left undone
When all that guards us is a single centerline
And the brutal crossing over when it’s time

Oooooooo
(I don’t know where it all begins)
Oooooooo
(And I don’t know where it all will end)
Oooooooo
(We’re better off for all that we let in)

One day those toughies will be withered up and bent
The father son the holy warriors and the president
With glory days of put up dukes for all the world to see
Beaten into submission in the name of the free

We’re in an evolution I have heard it said
Everyone’s so busy now but do we move ahead
The planets hurting and atoms splitting
And a sweater for your love you sit there knitting

Oooooooo
(I don’t know where it all begins)
Oooooooo
(And I don’t know where it all will end)
Oooooooo
(We’re better off for all that we let in)

I see those crosses on the side of the road
Tied with ribbons in the median
They make me grateful I can go this mile
Lay me down at night and wake me up again

Kat writes a poem and she sticks it on my truck
We don’t believe in war and we don’t believe in luck
The birds were calling to her what were they saying
As the gate blew open the tops of the trees were swaying

I’ve passed the cemetery walk my dog down there
I read the names in stone and say a silent prayer
When I get home you’re cooking supper on the stove
And the greatest gift of life is to know love

Oooooooo
(I don’t know where it all begins)
Oooooooo
(And I don’t know where it all will end)
Oooooooo
(We’re better off for all that we let in)

A good compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do and takes ages longer than it might seem. You’ve got to kick off with a killer, to grab the attention. Then you’ve got to take it up a notch, or cool it off a notch…oh, there are a lot of rules.

Thanks to @Patricec for sharing Nora Jones’ fabulous rendition of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” at the Grammy’s. That girl can sing!

“Boys for Pele” turned 15 yesterday (and I was too lazy to pull out the laptop to post this since my app wasn’t putting it through). “Putting the Damange On” is one of my absolute faves off of the record though. Goosebumps and tears every time. Beautiful.

“You can’t judge the love by the lover
The sky by it’s thunder
The road with no sign

You can’t make the snow fall in summer
Or make him not want her
Not leave it behind

Maybe you’ll stay in touch years down the road
And hope that he’s still in your mind

The sun may come up and go down again
I’ll still swear it’s a beautiful life

Maybe we’ll meet up in denver
Talk about weather
Talk of old times

I know every word that we said
Was what we both meant
Well we meant it at the time

Promise me that you’ll be standing up straight
Chasing rivers, and shadows, and time

The sun may come up and go down again
And I’ll still swear it’s a beautiful life

Time flies, time cries
Oh time flies, time cries

So swim to the end of the river
Until there’s no shiver
Left in your spine
Live like there won’t be tomorrow
See through your sorrow
See through your own eyes

Try to remember these days down the road and
Try to remember this time

The sun may come up and go down again
I’ll still swear it’s a beautiful life

The sun may come up
The sun may go down
The sun may come up
The san may go down
Oh the sun may come up
The sun may go down
I’ll still swear it’s a beautiful life.”
